After snapping their three-game losing streak, the Cincinnati Saints look to make up ground in the NPSL table with a two-match home stand this weekend.
The Saints begin the weekend with a Friday night clash with the Erie Commodores, and play the Minnesota United Reserves on Sunday.
“We hit a rough patch of late and dropped a few in a row,” Saints midfielder Justin Smith. “Luckily we got a result Sunday and hopefully we can build off of that. Two home games this weekend so hopefully we can build off of that.”
Smith said it’s important for the side to approach each match with a leveled intensity and playing to Cincinnati’s strengths, especially given the amount of change an opponent’s roster can go through over the course of a year.
“A lot of these teams change year-to-year so it’s hard to predict the other teams, especially when they’re made up mostly of college kids,” Smith he said.
“So it’s hard to judge last year, but you just have to go into it fresh. You don’t want to base your game too much off of them. You want to come out strong no matter what.”
But with the 1-1 draw at FC Indiana Lions, courtesy of a Craig Heard penalty, the Saints should enter the weekend in a firm position to produce quality results.
It’s going to be nice to have two games,” Smith said. “But it’s always hard when you have two games in a weekend.”
