Coaching Staff

Coach Reed is the Executive Director of STAR Soccer Club, founder of Predator Prep Goal Scoring Academy, and a Staff Coach for the NPSL member Cincinnati Saints Pro Soccer Team.  An accomplished collegiate player, Reed was part of the 1992 NCAA Division I Semi-Finalist Davidson Wildcats before hanging up the cleats to go on to graduate school in order to become a coach.

Reed has been coaching soccer since he was 16 years old. He is a USSF and NSCAA licensed coach and has coached at all levels of the game now including youth, Olympic Development, High School, College, and Pro.  Although he enjoys them all, his passion is with coaching the youngest players, where he has the greatest chance at positively impacting their careers and their lives.  He is currently overseeing the STAR SC Rising Stars Youth Academy in order to continue to work with the youngest players in the club.

Reed has a Masters degree in Sport Behavior and Performance and a Masters degree in Education, both of which he applies to his coaching process to create a unique style of coaching that is focused on player empowerment, and creates a learning environment that is safe, fun, and productive.  Reed's coaching philosophy is very simple - Smallest, Biggest, Right.  Teach the smallest things as a foundation for success.  Keep a focus on the biggest picture with regards to your athletes.  Coach for the right reasons.  He constantly reminds his coaches that "we coach for beyond the game.  Our duty as coaches is to create champions who will go on to succeed at something other than sport".

A highly-regarded and published expert in youth coaching principles, he is an advocate for empowering players to excel beyond the game and regularly writes and speaks publicly about a model of youth sports that puts the long term success of the "person" above short term success of the "player".  He has published multiple articles on proper treatment of youth athletes and has provided training and education to myriad audiences on the forms of communication that coaches use with their players.  He was recently awarded a Main Stage speaking role with TEDxCincinnati to talk about Coaching Athletes to Excel Well Beyond the Game.

His daily focus is on STAR SC and continuing to make it a destination for high quality players who want to be empowered to succeed in both soccer and beyond the game.
